(Vol .31 No 14 ) 6th May Psalter:
Week 1
‘Fifth Sunday of Easter’
Tyrone
and Fermanagh Hospital Chapel
The End of an era
Mass in the Tyrone and Fermanagh Chapel
was first celebrated for the large
number of patients, nurses and auxiliary
staff who had to be catered for but
over the years these numbers have
decreased dramatically to the extent
that there are now fewer than twenty
patients and nurses who attend the
Mass on a regular basis. Other parishioners
have been accustomed to attending
this Mass and those make up the bulk
of those who attend on a Sunday morning.
We are also conscious that due to
falling numbers, in the not too distant
future we won’t have the personnel
to celebrate seven Masses on a Sunday
morning. It is with reluctance that
we have decided to discontinue the
9.30am Mass in the Tyrone and Fermanagh
Chapel on a Sunday. The last Mass
will be celebrated in the hospital
on Sunday 27th May. We know that some
of you will be disappointed about
this closure but we feel that with
two vigil Masses and seven Masses
on a Sunday morning our parishioners
are well catered for.
