The
5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

CHRIST
WHO HEALS US
“The
fever left her and she began to wait
on them.” One of the
lovely features of the Gospels is
the number of healing stories they
contain. Nothing is too big or too
small to bring to Jesus. He raised
Lazarus from the dead; he healed Peter’s
mother-in-law from a fever. That same
Jesus is with us and among us with
the same power and the same longing,
to heal us into wholeness. All we
have to do is ask him for what we
need for ourselves and for one another
and know that he will answer. We all
need his healing power in so far as
we set limits to our love for one
another because his great commandment
is to love. Husbands and wives often
need to stretch their love into forgiveness
if they are to go forward together.
Parents need to grow in understanding
of their children. And in our parish
we need Christ’s power to help
us to take true responsibility for
those in need.

Doherty, C.Ss.R.

CAPPAGH
PARISH DRAW
As most of you are aware the current
draw comes to an end in March and
we hope to start another draw in April.
The draw has been a resounding success
and that is mainly due to the wonderful
work of the promoters and the committee.
With this in mind we are holding a
meeting of all promoters in the Cappagh
Parish Centre on Thursday 12th February
at 7.30pm. It will consist of an address
by the parish priest, Father Eugene
Boland, followed by some discussion
and a cup of tea. Some of our promoters,
due to other commitments, have had
to pull out so we really need new
promoters to cover the various areas.
Come along to the meeting and see
if you can help in any capacity.

SPECIAL NOTICE
FOR THOSE WHO ATTEND THE
12
NOON MASS IN CHRIST THE CHURCH.
Next Sunday the 15th
February the School car park will
be closed. This is due to circumstances
beyond our control and we apologise
for any inconvenience caused.
PRACTISE BEFORE
PREACHING
A boy was diagnosed
to be diabetic. The doctor gave a
strict instruction that he should
not eat sweets or sugar. His mother
tried to persuade the boy to stop
the practice of eating sweets. But
she failed. So she took the boy to
a saintly priest who was respected
and obeyed by all. She requested him,
"My son is diabetic. Kindly instruct
him to stop the dangerous habit of
eating sweets and sugar." The
priest asked her to return with the
boy after two weeks and promised that
then he would give the necessary instructions
to the boy. The mother was surprised
but followed the directions. She returned
with the boy after two weeks. The
priest issued a stern warning and
the boy readily agreed to follow the
order. Later, out of curiosity, the
mother asked the priest why he did
not give the instruction during their
first visit. "That is simple",
he said, "When you came to me
on the first day, I myself was in
the habit of eating sugar and sweets.
Unless and until I change my habit
and practice this myself, how can
I ask another person to follow my
instruction?"

Samaritan Volunteers- Spring
Recruitment Campaign:
Samaritans is a registered
charity that provides a completely
confidential and non-judgmental listening
service for people who are experiencing
feelings of distress or despair, including
those that could lead to suicide.
We are currently recruiting new volunteers.
Much media coverage is afforded to
the increasing incidence of suicide
within our society. Samaritans believe
that offering people the opportunity
to be listened to in confidence, and
accepted without prejudice, can alleviate
despair and suicidal feelings. Can
