Cappagh Parish News
(Vol.32 No 23) - 8th June 2008

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

The Lord is My Light and My Salvation

“What I want is mercy not sacrifice”. Aren’t we great people for working hard and giving so much of ourselves? And yet we can be so unhappy. The clue to life is found once again in the word of Jesus in the Liturgy for this week. Love is not so much doing things, as treasuring this other person as s/he is. That often takes mercy, which is about holding another gently in our minds and hearts and arms. This is particularly true of family life. Parents are generally very generous people and yet the complaint of so many young people is that their parents don’t listen to them. This is often because the parents are so busy getting things for their family rather than spending time with them. Married couples need to also listen to this message of Jesus and practice relaxing with each other. And in our parish we all need to contribute to a community that is built on reverence rather than ritual.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

THE POPE'S INTENTIONS FOR JUNE 2008

General: That Christians may cultivate a deep and personal friendship with Christ so they are able to communicate the strength of his love to those they encounter.

Mission: That the International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec, Canada, may lead to ever deeper understanding of the Eucharist, the heart of the Church and source of evangelisation.

Prayer for students.

O God, I come to you because I feel overwhelmed by all the deadlines that are before me. My mind is full of information but my spirit is tired and afraid. Help me study for my exams by giving me a calm heart and mind. Let not my fear of failure and bad grades undermine all the things that I have already accomplished. Give me the wisdom to know what is important and what is not. Let not so many distractions keep me from my goal. Let me also always remember that you love me for who I am and not for what I do. Finally, God, let me be honest with myself and face up to the challenges that are before me in truth and grace. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Novena in honour of the Sacred Heart.

The novena came to a conclusion last weekend and surpassed all our expectations. The turnout was excellent, with people coming from as far away as Ballygawley and Castlederg. The content of the speakers’ talks was much appreciated as indeed was the prayer rituals and reflections. We were challenged to make our faith more real and active, so that our lives would be living reflection of what we believe. A lot of preparation and hard work was involved in making the novena so successful and we would like to thank all those who helped or participated in any way.
