Questions people Ask
Q. I have a neighbour who makes my life very difficult. I don’t want to be bitter but it’s hard. Have you any advice?
A. Yes it is very difficult not to allow the wrongdoing of another to poison our reactions. The ability to move beyond the hurt doesn’t come naturally, so we need super-natural help, namely the grace of the Holy Spirit. Anybody who acts like your neighbour is really a person sick in mind and soul. The Holy Spirit lifts us up to give us a broader picture of the problem. There we understand the sick personality and we move from bitterness towards compassion. So, my advice is to constantly hand it over to the Holy Spirit.

Two Prayers

Last night my little boy confessed to me
Some childish wrong and kneeling at my knee he prayed with tears
“Dear God make me a man like daddy wise and strong
I know You can.’

Then while he slept I knelt beside his bed.
Confessed my sins and prayed with low bowed head,
‘Oh God make me a child like my child here
Pure, guileless, trusting Thee with faith sincere.’

Morning Prayer

O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely upon your holy will. In every hour of the day reveal your holy will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me. Teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout the day with peace of soul, and with the firm conviction that your will governs all. In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events let me not forget that all are sent by you. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me the strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will; teach me to pray, pray in me.

Prayer Before Exams

Dear Father, Source of all wisdom,
help me to use my time and my intelligence wisely
as I prepare for exams.
Help me to dispose myself to listen to your Holy Spirit
so that you, as my loving Father,
may place me in a state of prayer
and lead me to understand
that the supreme wisdom
is knowing I am your child.
Help me to remain serene
so that my work may truly reflect
this profound truth
Mary, Mother of my spiritual life,
guide me in the ways of your Son,
so that my work may help
to transform this world for His glory.

Amen

Praying...and Waiting...and Patience
Let us ponder for a moment
Life's three seasons:
Praying...and waiting...and patience.
Life's unpredictable seasons.
The season of praying,
When we bring our concerns and worries
And lay them at Jesus' feet.
Crying out for God's help in our time of need.
The season of waiting,
When our timing is so much different than God's.
When we think we have waited too long
And yet there is more waiting to be done.
The season of patience,
When waiting and patience meet.
You cannot have one without the other.
They must go hand-in-hand.
Welcome prayer...and waiting...and patience
For we know God is teaching us
And using them for our good
To bring about His perfect will for our lives.
