(Vol.33 No 24) - Sunday, 13th June 2010

11th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

The Pharisee said to himself: “If this man were a prophet he would know who this woman is that is touching him and what a bad name she has”. Once more we have a beautiful example of how Jesus treats women with gentleness and care. This time, however, we also see how he treats someone who is considered a sinner. All he has for her is compassion and understanding and forgiveness. This was a source of scandal for the people around him. How do we treat one another when someone fails? Very often it is with criticism or anger or condemnation. That is not the way of Jesus. We are called to practice the same qualities of love with one another as Jesus has for the woman in this story. We practice gentleness and understanding in the close relationships of marriage and family life. This can be difficult at times. And we need the same qualities within our faith community if we are to be true followers of Christ.

Doing a Good Job

They tell the following story about the famous Polish pianist Paderewski. A mother had a little boy who was learning to play the piano. In order to encourage him she took him to a concert by the famous Paderewski. Both of them arrived at the music hall a bit early and soon the mother got into a conversation with one of her friends. Meanwhile, the little boy wandered off.... When it was eight o'clock, the spotlights came on and the stage curtain opened. And there was that little boy seated at the piano innocently playing the children's song, "Twinkle, twinkle, little star." Paderewski came on stage and quickly moved over to the piano. "Don't quit. Just keep on playing," he whispered to the little boy. Then he leaned over the boy and put his hands onto the keyboard right alongside the little boy's. The little boy kept repeating and repeating "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and meanwhile the genius was weaving all kinds of new melodies around it, a different one each time. The crowd was thrilled by this unprepared concert.

As we play our little melody in our daily life, God whispers to us, "Don't quit, Keep on playing..." And He makes a masterpiece out of our simple music.

Parents with children attending the 12 noon Mass in Christ the King Church are asked to make sure the children do not play with the candles. These candles are being lit and they are dangerous as they have a naked flame. It has also been noted that several pieces of chewing gum have been thrown on the carpet. This is very difficult to remove.
