Parish News
(Vol.32 No 33) - 17th August 2008

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mercy
to every person
“Lord”,
the woman said, “help me.”
Human life is too big and too complex
for any of us to live it on our own.
We have all kinds of people and relationships
to help us to wholeness. The most
important one of all has to be the
presence of Christ with us. The intimate
relationships of marriage and family
life, for example, change so often
and so deeply that we cannot manage
them on our own. Christ is with us
to help us see the opportunities for
ever greater loving and to give us
the strength to grow in our love.
Relationships within the parish community
are also so complex that we cannot
possibly build our unity with one
another except through the power of
Christ. When we depend on our own
efforts we set very low limits and
settle for mediocrity. When we call
on the power of Christ, and live by
his power, we are set free to reach
for the stars.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Prayer
for Fine Weather
All powerful and ever
living God
we find security in your forgiveness;
give us the fine weather we pray for
so that we may rejoice in your gifts
of kindness and use them always for
your glory and our good.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord
Amen

Progress report
on St Mary’s Church’s
renovation.
The works were started
in February of this year and to date
the work has progressed well and is
on schedule.
The main structure is
undergoing major refurbishment and
repair works
The roof
The roof has been
completely stripped to the existing
rafters and trusses and all timbers
have been inspected, repaired, replaced
where necessary and all treated against
insect attack. The roof is currently
being recovered with new felt, new
natural slates and new lead work and
this work is nearing completion to
the main church.
External Walls
The external stone
walls have been repaired and re-pointed
and in several cases new stonework
has replaced plastered areas of the
wall.
New Sacristy
Block
The super structure
to the sacristy block is well advanced
and the roof structure is nearing
completion. The new stonework matches
the existing remarkably well and when
the sacristy is completed it should
look part of the original church.
Internal Floors
The existing floors
have been removed and replaced with
a solid concrete floor constructed
so as to prevent rising damp. The
sanctuary floor has now been formed
and the next stage will be to provide
a finishing screed throughout.
Internal Walls
The existing plaster
to the internal walls has been chipped
off. The metal dry-lining studs are
now in place and the first fix heating
(radiators) completed.
Windows
The stained glass
has been programmed to be replaced
within the next 2 weeks and one will
see a major change in the elevations.
The workmanship
has been executed to the highest standard.
Blessing
of the graves in Cappagh

The Blessing of Graves will take place
in Killyclogher Cemetery on Sunday
7th September at 1.30 pm and Knockmoyle
Cemetery on Sunday 14th September
at 3 pm. Bishop Hegarty will celebrate
the 10 am Mass in Mountfield on 5th
October and the blessing of the graves
will take place immediately afterwards.
(We request you bring your own holy
water for the blessing of your own
family grave).
The ceremony for
those buried in Greenhill will take
place on Sunday 2nd November at 7
pm in Christ the King Church. Please
inform family and relatives who live
outside the Parish of the times of
