Parish News
(Vol.33 No 25) - Sunday, 20th June
2010

12th
Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Jesus
said to his disciples: “If
you lose your life for my sake you
will gain it”.
The world in which we live tells
us that the most important thing
is to look after ourselves. And
there is some wisdom in this. Jesus
tells us to look after one another
and then everyone will be o.k. There
is even more wisdom in this. It
is only when we get caught up with
ourselves that we become unhappy.
When we are focused on the well-being
of others we can achieve great happiness.
That is the way of Jesus. We live
out this way of love and self-emptying
first of all in the intimate relationships
of marriage and family life. Our
homes should be places of mutual
support and encouragement, places
where each person can truly be at
home. The only way this can happen
is when we make it happen. The same
is true of our faith community.
Fr.
Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Twelfth
Sunday in Ordinary Time
First
Reading: Zechariah 12:10-11
The prophet looks forward
to a time when a new spirit will be
poured out on the
people as happened at Pentecost and
they will mourn over the death of
Jesus.
Second
Reading: Galatians 3:26-29
Our unity in Christ has done away
with distinctions, and means that
Jesus and Gentiles alike are heirs
to the promises made to Abraham.
Gospel:
Luke 9:18-24
Jesus is revealed as the Messiah,
but a suffering Messiah.
Suffering will be part of the lives
of his followers too.

Fathers
are Wonderful People
Fathers are wonderful people, too
little understood,
And we do not sing their praises,
as often as we should...
For, somehow, Father
seems to be, the man who pays the
bills,
While Mother binds
up little hurts, and nurses all our
ills...
And Father struggles
daily, to live up to "HIS IMAGE"
As protector and provider, and "
our hero in scrimmage"...
And perhaps that is
the reason, we sometimes get the notion,
That Fathers are not subject, to the
thing we call emotion,
But if you look inside
Dad's heart, where no one else can
see
You'll find he's sentimental, and
as "soft" as he can be...
But he's so busy every
day, in the gruelling race of life,
He leaves the sentimental stuff to
his partner and his wife...
But Fathers are just
WONDERFUL, in a million different
ways,
And they merit loving compliments,
and accolade of praise,
For the only reason
Dad aspires, to fortune and success
Is to make the family proud of him,
and to bring them happiness...
And like OUR HEAVENLY
FATHER, he's a guardian and a guide,
Someone that we can count on, to be
ALWAYS ON OUR SIDE.
HAPPY
FATHER’S DAY!!
