Parish News
(Vol.33 No 12) - 22nd March 2009
Fourth
Sunday of Lent
Click
here to read the lively Homily given
by Fr Michael Collins on the re-dedication
of St Mary's Chapel, Killyclogher,
15th March 2009.

Christ,
the Redeemer
"God
sent his Son so that through him the
world might be saved."
We can become so familiar with a sentence
like this that we miss the profound
truth in it of how much God loves
us and longs for us. We think of faith
as meaning our belief in God. It is
much more about God's intense belief
in us and in our goodness and beauty
and he wants us to come to a knowledge
of that too. We have a serious responsibility
to one another of constantly bringing
that knowledge to one another in every
way we can. One of the major tasks
for every married couple is to help
each other to know how much they are
loved and treasured. This is done
through affirmation and affection.
Parents have this same responsibility
towards their children. They can help
each one be a truly successful human
being by building up their goodness.
And in the parish community we help
one another by looking out for each
other.
Fr. Johnny
Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Wednesday
is the Feast of the Annunciation.
The re-opening
of St. Mary’s Church
last Sunday will surely stay in the
minds of the people of Cappagh for
a very long time. Everything about
it was magic. First God smiled down
on us and gave us a beautiful dry
day. Mrs Moohan kindly lent us the
school car park and thanks to her
the parking was not the nightmare
we had envisaged. The ushers under
the guidance of Anthony Connolly kept
the people moving and did a great
job in getting everyone seated. The
ceremony itself was moving and while
Bishop Seamus dedicated the new altar,
Father Bradley assisted by Father
McDevitt kept everything running smoothly.
The choir was heavenly and it enhanced
the whole event and this was due to
the dedication and hard work of Mrs
Marita McCullagh. The beautiful new
chalice and paten were presented by
Father Gerry Sweeney who raised the
money from a project last year where
he used his photography skills and
produced a mounted photograph of the
stained glass window. Father Michael
Collins, a well known orator and a
former resident of Cappagh, delivered
the homily which, while being witty,
got the serious point across very
well,
“If
you go to Mass every Sunday; if you
take your children to Mass every Sunday
then this church will continue to
be a holy place and you will be a
holy people.”
After the ceremony we made our way
across to the Cappagh Parish Centre
where we were treated to a beautiful
meal provided by Mairead McBride ably
assisted by her husband Mark and her
staff. When we saw the queues, we
doubted that everyone would get fed
but Mairead took it all in her stride
and did a wonderful job. Nobody went
hungry.
A special word of
thanks to Sean Hurd who helped us
out with the photographs for the Mass
booklet and to Father Bradley for
the order of service. As parish priest,
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all who took part in any
way to make this ‘A Day to Remember’.
May God bless you all.

A blessing and prayer tribute
to all mothers
"Blessed
be all mothers
Who have come into our lives
Whose kindness, care and loving
Remain with us to guide.
Your inspiration
in us
Made us strive in every way
Especially to remember
Helping others makes our day.
Mothers, this
little tribute
Flows directly from my heart
You are so loved and cherished
Invaluable, one and all, you are.

The White Fathers
will visit all the churches in the
parish next weekend to make an appeal
on behalf of the Missions. The "White
Fathers" is an international
Missionary Society within the Catholic
Church, made up of priests, brothers
and
co-operators. The Society was founded
in 1868 by Cardinal Lavigerie and
is
officially known as the "society
of Missionaries of Africa." Founded
in Algiers in North Africa, the Society
has always placed special emphasis
on its work within Africa.
Clothes Collection:
The recent clothes collection, in
Carrickmore, for the
destitute of PERU, was a resounding
success and the organizers wish to
thank all who supported the venture.
Marian Family Mass
A Marian Movement
Family Mass will take place this Wed
25th March 2009 @ 7.30pm in St Patrick's
Church, Cranagh. Bishop Hegarty will
be the main celebrant. (Adoration,
confessions , Children's Rosary, Eucharistic
Healing Service from 6.30pm). All
families welcome.

St Mary’s Church, Killyclogher:
It is proposed to form a
pool of voluntary
cleaners who could spare a few hours
a week to clean the church. If we
get enough people (male & female)
we could divide them into teams and
it would probably only involve one
day a month. If you think you could
help, please
contact Rose at the church.

Church Pews: Now
that the church has reopened we have
a few pews for sale again. There are
10 large @ £50 and one small
@ £25. There are also three
holy water fonts, one brass and two
marble which someone might like as
a memento of the old church. If you
are interested in any of these items.
Please get in touch with Martin Logue
on 8224 3435 or 07867775826.
