Cappagh Parish News
(Vol.32 No 48) - 23rd November 2008

Final Sunday in Ord. Time.

Christ the King

Jesus said to his disciples: "In so far as you did this to one of these brothers/sisters of mine, you did it to me." There are many ways of looking at what Christianity is about and most of them are valid. This extraordinary statement by Christ brings us to the very heart of it - the absolute dignity of every human being, the beloved of God. We practice our Christianity primarily through our love for one another and our care for all those in need. They say that charity begins at home. How true that is. Very often the person who is in most need is a wife or husband who is being taken for granted. Or there is often the child or young person who has everything except real affection for which they crave. But charity cannot remain at home. It has to spread out to the parish community and through that community to the poor and marginalised. That is how we honour Christ as our King.

Children in Crossfire: We are delighted to launch our new Advent Campaign. Advent is the season when we prepare for Christmas. Often our Christmas preparations focus on buying gifts for our families and those we love. This year through the Advent calendar there will be an opportunity to prepare for Christmas in a different way. Each day you will be able to contribute to Children in Crossfire and also get a short reflection to help focus on what Christmas is really about. The advent calendar boxes can be collected from all churches this weekend and can be returned at Christmas. Call Children in Crossfire on 028 7126 9898.

Pro-life Candle-light Rosary Procession will take place in Derry on Saturday 7th December, assembling at the Guildhall at 4.30 pm. You are invited to carry a ‘Light for Life’ and pray for the protection of Ireland’s unborn children from abortion. Candles will be supplied. Come with your family and friends and receive many blessings and graces. For further information, contact Precious Life on 028 9027 8484.
