Parish News
(Vol.32 No 34) - 24th August 2008

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time
On
this Rock I will build my Church
“You are the
Christ, the Son of the living God.”
This is the core of our faith as followers
of Christ. A way of restating this
is that Christ is the one above all
others who can teach us the fullness
of human life. And he teaches us that
the only way to full human living
is to love God with our whole heart
and to love our neighbour as ourselves.
Married couples are the great prophets
of this way, as love is at the core
of their existence. But this love
has to be worked at every day. Love
does not just mean how we feel but
how we choose what is best for each
other and for the marriage relationship.
These choices have to be made every
day and often during many days. The
same is true within family life. As
we acknowledge the family as the Domestic
Church, we know that love is at the
centre of it. And certainly if we
are to build the parish as a community
of faith these decisions to love,
to make Christ present, are essential.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Prayer
for Fine Weather (have faith).
All powerful and
ever living God
we find security in your forgiveness;
give us the fine weather we pray for
so that we may rejoice in your gifts
of kindness and use them always for
your glory and our good.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen

Reflection
of a Pilgrim
I wait in the
lounge of departure,
I know not the time of my flight
I hope it’s way off in the future,
But it could be I’m flying tonight.
The flight I await goes to Heaven,
I know that it’s lovely up there,
For I’ve read their fine brochure,
the Bible,
And I speak to them oft in my prayer.
It costs very little to go there,
You take nothing with you at all,
And you pay by the way you behave
every day,
And you wait for St Peter to call.
As I wait for the start of my journey,
There’s so many things I can
see,
Like someone in need of a word or
a deed,
So I do what’s expected of me.
Then I wait in the lounge of departure,
Never too sure when I’ll fly,
But I hope when I do,
There’s a chance I’ll
meet you,
We can all pay the fare if we try
