The Power of Truth
Jesus said:
"Tax collectors and prostitutes
are making their way into heaven before
you." These are strange
words of Jesus in the Gospel for this
week. What can they mean for us? These
two groups of people were the despised
in the time of Jesus and yet they
were very open to what he had to say.
They knew how much they needed God,
and Jesus gave them hope of forgiveness
and salvation. We can get so complacent
that we don't see our own need to
change, and yet how we all need to
let go of so much if we are to follow
his way of complete love. So many
married couples are complacent about
their relationship and settle for
mediocrity. So many people in our
parishes set the limits of living
their faith so low that it is almost
insignificant. And in family life
people can take each other so much
for granted that they become almost
like lodgers in the same house. Christ
urges us once more to aim for the
stars.

Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Gift
Aid Declaration Forms
Thank you so much
to all those who have returned their
Gift Aid Declaration Forms. Your support
for this campaign has been fantastic.
We hope to make our claim shortly,
and we therefore, appeal to anyone
who has recently received a Gift Aid
Declaration Form to return it to the
Parish Office as soon as possible.
This can be done, either by using
the pre-paid envelope provided, or
by placing the completed form in the
collection basket this weekend. If
you are a tax payer and contribute
to the parish using your envelope,
then you too are able to Gift Aid
your donations, increasing every pound
you donate to the parish by 25p. Simply
contact Agnes in the Parish Office
for a form – it’s really
very easy!
PRACTICALITY
VS. RELIGION
During a recent ecumenical
gathering, a secretary rushed in shouting,
"The building is on fire!!!"
The METHODISTS
gathered in the corner and prayed.
The BAPTISTS
cried, "Where is the holy water?"
The QUAKERS
quietly praised God for the blessings
that fire brings.
The LUTHERANS
posted a notice on the door declaring
the fire was evil.
The ROMAN
CATHOLICS passed the plate
to cover the damage.
The JEWS
posted symbols on the doors hoping
the fire would pass.
The CONGREGATIONALISTS
shouted, "Every man for himself!"
The FUNDAMENTALISTS
proclaimed, "It's the vengeance
of God!"
The EPISCOPALIANS
formed a procession and marched out.
The CHRISTIAN
SCIENTISTS concluded that
there was no fire.
The PRESBYTERIANS
appointed a chairperson who was to
appoint a committee to look into the
matter and submit a written report.
The SECRETARY grabbed
the fire extinguisher and put the
fire out.
