Vincent & Dympna Brogan write to express their deep gratitude for the generous donation of £5,003 by the people of the parish to the black community in Hermanus to help build their own church to serve the community. They are so impoverished they would never be able to raise the money themselves. The church will act as a service point and base for SVdeP to deliver aid and training to the local people. One example of the needs is that their shacks are built so closely together that a recent fire destroyed 37 homes before it was brought under control. These families lost all their possessions and were left homeless in winter. The support from outside, as well as being financially necessary, is also of great help in raising the spirits as they realise that others are thinking of them.

As reported in the CPN on the first of July, Geraldine McBride , Ashgrove Park, Omagh is going to work in the Kwale Eye Clinic Mombassa Kenya for two weeks in September and plans to bring donated children’s glasses to Kwale. Children’s glasses, sunglasses and magnifying glasses can be left in the collection box in the church porch. Last year Geraldine cleaned and measured 400 pairs of donated glasses-this helped both children and adults to lead a normal life and to earn a living.
Boxes have now been placed in all the churches and will be picked up on Monday 30th July

Two Prayers

Last night my little boy confessed to me
Some childish wrong and kneeling at my knee he prayed with tears
“Dear God make me a man like daddy wise and strong
I know You can.’

Then while he slept I knelt beside his bed.
Confessed my sins and prayed with low bowed head,
‘Oh God make me a child like my child here
Pure, guileless, trusting Thee with faith sincere.’

Morning Prayer

O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely upon your holy will. In every hour of the day reveal your holy will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me. Teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout the day with peace of soul, and with the firm conviction that your will governs all. In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events let me not forget that all are sent by you. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me the strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will; teach me to pray, pray in me.

Prayer Before Exams

Dear Father, Source of all wisdom,
help me to use my time and my intelligence wisely
as I prepare for exams.
Help me to dispose myself to listen to your Holy Spirit
so that you, as my loving Father,
may place me in a state of prayer
and lead me to understand
that the supreme wisdom
is knowing I am your child.
Help me to remain serene
so that my work may truly reflect
this profound truth
Mary, Mother of my spiritual life,
guide me in the ways of your Son,
so that my work may help
to transform this world for His glory.

Amen

Praying...and Waiting...and Patience
Let us ponder for a moment
Life's three seasons:
Praying...and waiting...and patience.
Life's unpredictable seasons.
The season of praying,
When we bring our concerns and worries
And lay them at Jesus' feet.
Crying out for God's help in our time of need.
The season of waiting,
When our timing is so much different than God's.
When we think we have waited too long
And yet there is more waiting to be done.
The season of patience,
When waiting and patience meet.
You cannot have one without the other.
They must go hand-in-hand.
Welcome prayer...and waiting...and patience
For we know God is teaching us
And using them for our good
To bring about His perfect will for our lives.
