Third
Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Follow
me and I will make you into fishers
of people.” Those
words of Jesus, which are given to
us for this week, are usually thought
of as being addressed to people with
a vocation to the priesthood or religious
life. They are about vocation certainly
but are addressed to each of us. The
four great vocations in the Church
are single life, married life, religious
life and priesthood. All of us who
are baptised are living one of those
and each of us is vital to the health
of the whole body, the Church. We
live our vocations in different ways
but to the same end, the salvation
of the world. Our task is to discover
how to live our own vocation to the
full. This means discovering how to
make our love radiate out to those
around us. We begin in our homes with
those who are closest to us. Then
we can reach out to the world around
us. When we are with Christ and following
him love will be the characteristic
of our lives.

Doherty, C.Ss.R.

THE FOLLOWING ARE A FEW PASTORAL
PROGRAMMES WHICH WE WILL BE INITIATING
OVER THE COMING MONTHS:
CATHOLICISM
SERIES: Catholicism Series
is a groundbreaking presentation of
what Catholics believe and why. The
DVD Series is presented by Fr Robert
Barron, Professor of Theology in Chicago.
This is not a lecture series, but
is a documentary style presentation
of the Catholic faith filmed in 50
locations throughout 15 countries.
The Catholicism Series reveals the
truths of the Catholic Faith in a
visually breathtaking and compelling
way, with original, high-definition
cinematography. Fr Barron journeys
with those who participate in the
programme in an engaging and interesting
way, using the art, architecture,
literature, music and all the treasures
of the Catholic tradition to illuminate
the timeless teachings of the Church.
As we begin to use the Catholicism
Series we hope that it will guide
all who participate in it to a deeper
understanding of the Catholic Faith.
Over the coming weeks we will be training
people in the parish to facilitate
this series. If you would like to
become involved, an episode from the
series will be shown on Monday night
in Christ the King at 8pm. To find
out more visit www.CatholicismSeries.com
BAPTISM PROGRAMME: We
will be inviting people from the parish
to form a Baptism Preparation Team,
who will guide, accompany and offer
support to parents presenting their
children for baptism. The team will
receive formation and training in
the coming weeks. If you are interested
in becoming involved, please contact
Fr McElhennon or Fr Gormley.
RCIA: The Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
is the process for initiation into
the Catholic Church for those people
(adults and children) who have not
been baptised, have been baptized
in a different Christian tradition,
or who have been baptised Catholic
and have not received the sacraments
of First Eucharist and Confirmation.
Three people from our parish have
received training to coordinate RCIA
(The Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults). This has come in response
to the number of adults seeking baptism
and initiation into the Catholic Church.
SIMEON & ANNA:

you would like to sponsor a bench
which will be dedicated with an inscription
to the memory of your family, please
contact the Parish Office.
