Parish News
(Vol.32 No 28) - 13th July 2008

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
What
kind of people are we?
“Other (seed)
fell on rich soil and produced their
crop”. We have all kinds of
choices to make in the course of a
lifetime. Probably the most significant
one is the kind of person we want
to be in relation to God and to one
another. This is not predetermined
as we can let ourselves be changed
through the way we listen to God’s
Word and how we listen and are transformed
by those close to us. We are shaped
right through life by what/who we
are listening to. If we listen to
the world around us we will put ourselves
at the centre of our own world. If
we listen to God’s Word we will
put God and those we love at the centre.
The first way leads to loneliness
and isolation. The second way leads
to fulfilment. Each of us can produce
a lot of good for our world but only
if we are living a life of love of
God and love of one another in our
homes and families and in our community
of faith.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

REFLECTIONS
In glorious silence
I kneel to pray
To thank God for another day
To place my problems in His care
And those of my family everywhere
The warmth of His church enfolds me
In awe and wonder it holds me
Peace Perfect Peace enfolds me
My God, My God, I love Thee
Alas the spell is cruelly broken
When unnecessary thoughtless words
are spoken
Trifling pleasantries loudly exchanged
God’s presence ignored - to
be thought of again
Someone starts praying, and is whispering
out loud
But that whistling whisper is an ear
splitting sound,
When the rosary starts there is always
one there
Who thinks God is deaf and will shout
out each prayer.
Then there are those who can’t
wait to get going
Cut short the Hail Mary without even
knowing
And start the Holy Mary before the
right time
Such lack of respect is a very sad
crime.
If you happen to be early on a Sunday
that is
There are these two auld blokes who
know all the bizz,
For they talk out loud - and answer
each other
There reasons for coming? Just why
do they bother?
One daily Hail Mary with thought and
care said,
Is better by far than those poorly
prayed,
So in visiting God’s House let
us endeavour
To pray with respect for Him and each
other.
The deaths, births, disasters and
Bingo can wait
The Gossip can wait ‘till we’re
outside His Gate
God give us peace
to pray.
